CONGRATULATIONS TO THE BIG WINNERS! 
FRANKENFILM

Last night - we were at The Crest Theater to celebrate the CFAA and the opening night of the Sacramento Film & Music Festival - and to present the finished film and writing works from our year-long Frankenfilm creative contest.

We screened 12 Frankenfilm shorts and read bits from the feature length screenplay entries - which were all inspired by Mary Shelley's 'Frankenstein'. The variety of content ranged from scary to hilarious!

We are proud to announce the winning films and screenwriters.  Thanks to everyone who participated and came out to show your support of local filmmaking! 


BEST FILM ($750):
'
You're A Monster' - by Rob Gore and John Demakas. 

HONORABLE MENTION - FILM ($200):

BEST STUDENT FILM ($250 - TIE):

THE CONTEST HISTORY: 

In a nod to the 200th anniversary of the famous work of author Mary Shelley, the CFAA is hosting a creative challenge that is inspired by her book Frankenstein and all it’s subsequent works!

​The CFAA welcomes Sac City College and City Films - the sponsor for the STUDENT FILMMAKER DIVISION of the FRANKENFILM Project!

For Writers: A SCRIPTWRITING CONTEST
For Filmmakers: A SHORT FILMMAKING CONTEST


With $2,400 in prize money and a gala screening and awards ceremony held at the Crest Theater as part of opening night of the 19th annual Sacramento Film and Music Festival in the Fall, this exciting competition provided the time, motivation and inspiration to allow for some really good work to be produced by our regional talent.

Scriptwriting Contest

Registered participants to submit an original, feature length screenplay (80-110 pages) in acceptable industry
format ​by the deadline of July 31st, 2018.


RULES: 
* Upon registration-completion, entrants must be members in good standing of the Capital Film Arts Alliance
* Scripts should be a minimum of 80 pages and a maximum of 110 pages.
* Scripts must be single sided pages, 12 point Courier font. 

* Scripts should be formatted correctly with points deducted for spelling and grammar errors.

Filmmaking Contest

​Short Filmmaking Contest

($1,700 in Cash Awards)


Registered participants to submit a short film (8 minute maximum) by the deadline of July 31st, 2018.


RULES: 
* Upon registration-completion, entrants must be members in good standing of the Capital Film Arts Alliance
* Short films must be a maximum of 8 minutes in length.
* Films are not to exceed an' R' rating.
* Must be original work with all rights secured.

JUDGING GUIDELINES:
Each project has a potential score of 80.  10 points in each of the 8 categories. 


Scripts: 

1. PLOT  - An original story brought to life on the page.

2. CHARACTERS -   Vivid, distinctive and compelling characters. A protagonist and an antagonist with clear goals. Secondary characters believable and well-developed. 

3. DIALOGUE- Natural, succinct and distinctive voices unique to each character. Use of language that reveals character. Dialogue should flow well and propel the story forward. 

4. THEME - Does the script reflect the theme of Mary Shelley’s book? 

5. CRAFT -  Formatted correctly on the page. Free of distracting spelling and grammar issues. 

6.  PACE - Is there rhythm to the action and dialogue? Do the plot and characters develop naturally? Does each scene move the story forward?

7. OVERALL IMPACT - The pure emotional impact on the reader.

8.  ORIGINALITY - Scripts should aim for a clear and unique take on the source material. Scripts will be judged for the original way in which the characters and settings are utilized by the writer and what the writer brings to the table. 


Films: 


1. PLOT  - An original story brought to life on the page, inspired by the works of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.

2. CHARACTERS -   Vivid, distinctive and compelling characters. A protagonist and an antagonist with clear goals. Secondary characters believable and well-developed. 

3. SCREENPLAY - Natural, succinct and distinctive voices unique to each character. Use of language that reveals character. Dialogue should flow well and propel the story forward. 

4. THEME - Does the script reflect the theme of Mary Shelley’s book? 

5. CRAFT -  Cinematic quality, audio excellence, production value, editing, 

6.  ACTING - Do the characters bring the work to life in a memorable way?

7. ORIGINALITY - Is this a brand new way of experiencing this story and its characters?


8. OVERALL IMPACT - The pure emotional impact on the viewer.
