SIN
Christa Bella
Poe Work: Shadow: A Parable
Summary: "Is life a blessing, in all its glory, its attractions, its temptations? Or is it a sin? And when it is done. What is left? Who are we? Where do we go from here? When we are left with a final choice? Those among you without sin...open the door... Or not..."

The Dress in The Pit
Priscila Alegria Nunez
Poe's Work: The Pit and The Pendulum
Summary: This short film offers a complete update to Edgar Allan Poe's "The Pit and the Pendulum." Set in a contemporary high school, the characters turn ordinary adolescent encounters into a descent into the macabre. In an astonishing twist, a fixation on a dress turns the boy and girl into the subjects of horror. The final twist of the plot simply cannot be anticipated. Characters and plot are inspired by Poe’s depiction of Spanish inquisitors, French Army, torture styles, and the narrator.

Ligeia (winner - Best Film)
Paul Kramer
Poe's Work: The short story, "Ligeia."
https://vimeo.com/74535487
Summary: The short story, “Ligeia,” by Edgar Allan Poe, suggests that not only is life sustainable through the power of one's will, but a strong will could bring someone back from the dead. In both the classic story and in this film, a writer obsesses over the memories of his dead wife and longs to “restore her to the pathway she had abandoned.” Though this adaptation takes place in the modern world – and uses Poe's actual text as narration – this film looks, sounds and feels as though it could have been made long ago.

Annabel Lee, a Tragic Love Story (winner: best alternative content, most online views)
David Ridgway
Poe poem is of an older man named Edgar. He is haunted by the loss of the love of his life, Annabel Lee. Many years before, she was tragically ripped from his life, and every day is a painful struggle, and the constant reminder of her for Edgar. It has brought him to the edge of life, even death. One day while strolling the beach for answers he is sent reeling backwards in time to the very essence of his love. His memories move his emotions and passions from the "light of his youth, to the darkness of that tragic day when Annabel Lee was stolen from him by a dark force." This passionate and emotional film is a true reminder of how deep love can be, and the sacrifice we can have to keep it. Enjoy....

a dream within a dream (winner: best student film)
Lizet Fernandez
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vVL1Q-JZZE
Poe's Work: We decided to use the poem "A Dream Within A Dream" as our frame work. The short has voiceover reading the poem with images depicting the lines.
Summary: "a dream within a dream is a short film based on the poem of the same name by Edgar Allan Poe. The film depicts a man dealing with the loss of a true love and the memories that haunt him. As he struggles to shake her grasp, the question is asked ""Is all that we see or seem but a dream within a dream?" The film, directed by Andrew Blankenship and staring Justyn Mettler and Andrea Salazar Fernandez, is an experimental look at the life of Poe and a visual depiction of one of his famous works. Taking from Poe's visual and expressive nature, the film looks to honor his life and his work."

The Cask of Amontillado (winner: best traditional adaption)
Cathy McGreevy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwQ2fcqe5w0
Poe's Work: The Cask of Amontillado
Summary: There was always the question in Poe's original work of "The Cask of Amontillado" of what happened that led to Montresor taking Fortunato to the cellar. This adaptation gives a brief look prior to and leading into the story of Poe, in an effort to give some answers to these two interesting and mismatched individuals.
-------------
Here Puppy Puppy
Jabriel Mohammed
Poe's Work: The Black Cat
Summary: Allen and Edna Poe had a loving marriage until Pluto showed up. Now Allen gets no affection or respect. Once he is push beyond his limits the consequences will be deadly.
-------------
Annabel Lee: A Paper Doll's Dream
Michelle Barbaria
Poe's Work: Annabel Lee
Summary: It is a straight read of the poem with minimal sound effects. It is a diorama made to look childish and a bit mentally warped. I created the characters as two girls rather than a boy and girl. This can be interpreted as you like. Rather than the standard death scene my Annabel has to be on life support and I think is quite a disturbing thought.
-------------
A Dream Within A Dream
Carlos Hernandez
Poe's Work: A Dream Within A Dream
Summary: A brief glimpse into the creative process. Writers block as well as inspiration comes in many forms.
-------------
William Wilson
Cheryl Bealer-Wynton
Poe's Work: William Wilson
Summary: William Wilson is a brash young man who never thinks about the consequences of his actions until one day a new student shows up, one that only William can see, who calls him on his every transgression. William sets out to destroy his doppleganger, or will he destroy himself?
-------------
